Safeguarding: What You Need to Know about the English Delegation of Josephites

Why is Safeguarding Important?
Safeguarding is about protecting people—especially children, young people, and vulnerable adults—from harm, abuse, or neglect.
The English Delegation of Josephites has a shared responsibility to make sure everyone feels safe, respected, and valued.
What Does Safeguarding Look Like for English Delegation of Josephites?
• Creating a welcoming and inclusive space for all
• Respecting personal boundaries and privacy
• Looking out for each other’s wellbeing
• Speaking up if something doesn’t feel right
Types of Harm to Be Aware Of:
• Emotional abuse – bullying, humiliation, intimidation
• Physical abuse – any kind of physical harm or rough handling
• Sexual abuse – unwanted or inappropriate sexual behaviour or contact
• Neglect – ignoring someone’s basic needs or isolating them
• Spiritual abuse – using faith to manipulate, control or harm someone
If You See Something, Say Something
